Eat, Pray, Die
Isobel "Izzy" Avery is recruited by the Taste Society to
protect it's newest celebrity client after their last operative ends up in a
coma from a crippling, unknown poison. Like other recruits, Izzy has a rare
gene that allows her to detect deadly poisons without being killed.
Matters become more complicated
as Izzy has to face off against a dangerous character from her past while
battling romantic feelings for her trainer, the Taste Society's top operative,
Connor Stiles.
What I particularly liked about "Eat, Pray, Die" is the
unconventional take on the heroine. Izzy is resourceful, skilled and
highly intelligent, yet she consistently finds herself in hilarious scenarios
due to her awkward, clumsy antics.
Author Chelsea Fields allows Izzy
to express her sexuality unfiltered, and this was refreshing to read as it
challenges the usually stoic and sexually suppressed female heroes. Izzy blatantly flirts with Connor and is not embarrassed
by her sexuality. Indeed, the character takes
female empowerment to a new level. I
enjoyed the consistently witty and sexually charged banter between the two
leads.
For a relaxed, casual read, "Eat, Pray, Die" is highly recommended. The light, Bond-inspired caper is the perfect companion for a lazy Sunday afternoon.
